                                                  Map of Marks, Mississippi

In 2007, Marks, Mississippi is an impovished town of about 1,900 people in the heart of  the Northern Mississippi Delta.  The median household income in Marks was  $20,300. in 2005 and has been dropping each year.  The town has a 65 per cent African-American population and a 30 percent poverty level.  It's the place where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. launched his Poor People's March on Washington in 1968 before he was assassinated in Memphis in April of that year.  Marks may be a quaint little community today, but things haven't gotten much better for the town's have-nots in the last 39 years
