THE MORGAN LINE
 Family Tree

The Taplin dynasty continued after Nathan Torrance and Mother Taplin, first name unknown and probably a slave,  produced one son.  She also had a child from a previous marriage.  It appears Nathan was possibly a slave-owner, or any race, and married to someone else with whom he had many kids.  The son, John Quincie Adam, my maternal great-grandfather, is described as an Indian.  He married Rachel Tate who is described as half-white. She could have been half-black or half-Indian. They owned their own plantation in Libertyville, MS, and had seven children, one of whom was William Taplin, my maternal grandfather.  The Taplin  family tree lists him as name unknown on their family tree. Ada died when my mom was very young. My mother, Marguerite, and her two brothers, Willie and Richard Taplin were raised by a foster parent, Mary Brown, who we called "Mamma Daughter".  I remember my grandfather William located my mom before he died in Chicago and she went to see him when he was sick, and again for the funeral.  This was in the early 50's.

The Morgan dynasty continued after a white, unnamed father and Mother Morgan, first name unknown,  produced Samuel Morgan, my paternal great-grand father.  Keep in mind this was slavery time and vital records were rare and non-existent.  Exact years and ages were distorted. I concede that family means blood, not necessarily marriage.  As a family, our future quest is to continue to find our blood line.   How exciting it is that we are almost back to Africa,  but factual information will require much more research.  A research of the Mississippi plantation records is a next step.  We know the first generation was really Adam and Eve.  This web site and future book is a project of the entire family.  It is up to each of us to make our contribution.
